* Wai'ohinu is a small town on the way from South Point to Na'alehu.
* Mark Twain planted a monkeypod tree here while visiting Hawaii. The tree (actually a descendant of the original) stands next to the highway and has a historic marker.
* Near the Mark Twain tree is the small Wai'ohinu public park and ball field.
* The area is a point of access to the Discovery Harbor and Mark Twain Estates subdivisions, two of the larger developments in the area.

 

 

 

Directions: Wai'ohinu is located off the Belt Rd. (Hwy 11 / Mamalahoa) between South Point Rd. and Na'alehu. (The Mark Twain Tree has a marker on the map below.)
