* Pololu Valley is the first of a chain of valleys that ends at Waipio Valley.
* Stop at the Pololo Valley Lookout to take pictures on your way around North Kohala
* Hike down into the valley is 15-20 minutes, but going back up the steep trail can be twice as long. The Trail becomes even more difficult in wet conditions and requires hiking shoes.
* Blacksand beach at the bottom is scenic, but very stong currents make swimming dangerous.

This area is known for strong currents and hazardous conditions!
No lifeguard- good swimmers drown here!

Directions: Follow Highway 270 North from Hawi until it ends at Pololu Valley lookout. Parking near the lookout is limited; you may have to park along the road a few blocks back from the lookout.
