Where Hawaiian astronomy and culture meet Full-dome planetarium system - 'Imiloa's digital full-dome planetarium system and 5.1 audio surround sound create a spectacular immersive audio-visual experience! Every presentation includes a live sky lecture featuring the sky as viewed from Maunakea. Several different shows are featured throughout the day, including a Japanese lamguage show at 11 am. All daily Planetarium shows are included in the price of a general admission ticket. Friday night, there is a "rock show" performance of laser lights, etc., to the music of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." Other Exhibits: Imiloa explores the intersections of Hawaiian culture and modern science and astronmy. The ancient Hawaiians used the stars to navigate their voyaging canoes, and their beliefs about the skies are featured along with exhibits about hula, Hawaiian music, and Hawaiian language. |

The Center is accessible from Komohana Street. From downtown Hilo, take Waianuenue Avenue 9/10 of a mile mauka (up the hill); turn left onto Komohana Street; after 1.8 miles on Komohana, turn left onto Nowelo Street. Take the second left onto ‘Imiloa Place and follow the signs for parking.
