The Zoo is situated on the outskirts of Hilo at 800 Stainback Highway.
From Hilo, take Highway 11 (Belt Road) South towards Volcano. About two and one half miles past Prince Kuhio Shopping Plaza look for the "ZOO" sign on a lava rock wall, just after "Kulani 19." Turn right on Mamaki.
From Volcano look for "Kulani 19," just beyond it is the sign for the Zoo, a small brown one high above the ground on the right hand side of the highway. Turn left at Mamaki, follow signs to the Zoo, 1 mile off the highway.
This 12 acre zoo is home to more than 80 animal species including the endangered Nene (Hawaii's state bird) and Namaste, a white Bengal Tiger. There are also many species of plants - trees, flowers, and exotics - on displace. Picnic with the peacocks by the many varieties of palm trees.
