Just South of the 3 Way Stop on Ali'i Drive
Hale Halawai is an oceanfront park in downtown Kailua Kona. It sits on Ali'i Drive just South of the 3 way stop, between the Kona Inn and Waterfront Row shopping centers. The center of the park is the Hale Halawai Pavilion, which is used for community and cultural functions, and may also be rented for private functions. Though there is no swimming at the park, it is a good place to take a break from walking around downtown Kona and watch the sunset or the activities (boats, dolphins, canoe races) in the waters of Kailua Bay.
Community interest activities that take place at the park include a photography class, writer's group, chess club, senior citizens group, ukulele lessons, karate, and bellydancing. Stop by to watch children's karate practice or senior ladies practicing hula for a slice of Kona life.
There is a Police sub-station located at the Park that serves Ali'i Drive / downtown Kona.
Contact the County at (808) 323-4322 or (808) 327-3565 for more info on private functions, etc.
